Scope of Work: Regional Planning

The Regional Planner works in the Technology Enterprise Services Planning area and is responsible for the successful delivery of ICT and infrastructure-related designs. The appointed candidate must have experience in ICT, specifically advanced fixed-line planning, architecture and design.

The Regional Planner will be accountable to the Planning Manager for the delivery of fixed-line solutions.

This role requires an in-depth understanding of ICT, fixed-line and IP technologies. The ideal candidate should have an engineering degree, supported by CCNA, CCNP or equivalent certifications. CECP will be advantageous. Experience in an enterprise infrastructure environment is essential, especially fixed-line planning, including microwave and fibre optic planning and design capabilities.

The company will provide the necessary support for the Regional Planner to understand internal policies, processes and procedures relating to the network. The Regional Planner will be expected to familiarise themselves with these requirements and provide in-depth explanations to senior customers when required. Timeous and effective decision-making will also need to be facilitated and escalated where necessary.

External planners will have an explicit objective for skills transfer, with measurable targets to support internal development.

Responsibilities
The Regional Planner will be directly responsible for:

  • Timely planning of all infrastructure-related networks within the assigned region, including access, aggregation and core networks.
  • Transport planning, IP planning, GIS processing and related data analytics.
  • Managing design guidelines for relevant infrastructure solutions.
  • Medium selection, including the selection of the last-mile transport medium in line with company standards.
  • Translating high-level plans into low-level designs.
  • Prioritising network growth, revenue generation and projects.
  • Driving execution of near-term plans.
  • Forecasting capacity and traffic and aligning this with enterprise plans, strategy and roadmap.
  • Ensuring correct and best-practice planning of the enterprise network according to customer requirements and proposed solutions.
  • Evaluating new technology specifications and reporting on these.
  • Identifying geographical locations for equipment installation.
  • Verifying configuration, bill of materials and infrastructure planning approvals.
  • Ensuring implementation of infrastructure plans is completed fully, with a smooth handover to Network Operations for cutover and integration into the live network.
  • Ensuring that policies, procedures and quality standards are followed during the planning process.

Key Deliverables
The Regional Planner will be required to:

  • Compile and produce low-level solution designs according to customer orders and internal requirements.
  • Ensure the quality of planning is suitable for rollout and execution with vendors and/or customer review.
  • Escalate matters requiring management intervention or support in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide copies of planning documents to the relevant Regional Planner for storage and audit purposes.
  • Produce, manage, support approval of, and where appropriate maintain deliverables, including high-level plans, low-level plans, technical solutions and recommendations.
  • Analyse, process and report on network infrastructure relating to the Technology Enterprise Services mandate.
  • Approve vendor designs in line with company specifications and standards, recommending changes that benefit the company and its customers.

Person Specification
The Regional Planner must have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an infrastructure planning role, including ICT solution design.
  • A core degree or National Diploma in an appropriate discipline from a recognised institution.
  • CCNA, CCNP or equivalent certifications.
  • CECP certification will be advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications and/or experience in RF microwave and fibre optic planning.
  • Fixed-line planning and design experience is mandatory.
  • Strong familiarity with ICT and fixed-line technologies, concepts and terminology.
  • Experience drafting business cases, preparing solutions, planning and designs.

Contract: Until December – Renewable (Depends on Candidate’s Performance)
