Role Purpose
Support the design, development, and implementation of advanced cyber security controls across Vodacom’s mobile, fixed, satellite, cloud, and IoT networks to protect against evolving threats. Initially focus on Enterprise and The Company’s Business environments across all Group markets, contributing expertise to key initiatives covering Enterprise Customer Premise Equipment, IP Core Networks, Network Management Systems, Office Connectivity, Monitoring & Analytics, and Measurement & Assurance. Apply SME-level knowledge to ensure secure configurations and compliance with ISO27001, NIST, and regulatory requirements. Conduct risk assessments, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to the delivery of security solutions. Provide subject matter expertise to guide junior staff, and actively support the Principal Specialist in driving technical delivery and ensuring alignment with operational priorities.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership
- Support Security Implementation
Contribute to the design and execution of cyber security strategies for mobile, fixed, satellite, cloud, and IoT networks, applying SME-level knowledge to ensure resilience against advanced threats. - Assist Workstream Delivery
Support the Principal Specialist in delivering technical activities across Enterprise domains—Enterprise CPE, Core Network, Network Management Systems, Office Connectivity, Cyber Security Controls, Monitoring & Analytics, and Measurement & Assurance—through scope definition, design input, deployment support, and quality review. - Cyber Risk and Compliance Support
Perform targeted risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigation measures, ensuring alignment with ISO27001, NIST, and applicable regulations. - Enhance Monitoring and Assurance Assist in implementing processes for near real-time threat detection and continuous security posture assessment, integrating tools such as SIEM and NetFlow, and supporting second-line assurance validation.
- SME Guidance and Team Collaboration
Provide technical mentorship to junior cyber security team members, fostering collaboration and innovation while ensuring execution quality. Act as a trusted technical adviser to the Principal Specialist.
Performance KPI’s
- Compliance with Security Standards: Achieve 95% compliance with The Company’s Cyber Security Network Control requirements for Hardening and CPE
- Network Edge and Core Hardening: Ensure 100% of managed CPE, PE devices, and core network equipment are patched, hardened, and compliant with Cyber Security tool standards, as validated by quarterly security audits.
- Attack Detection Effectiveness: Improve real-time detection of network attacks, achieving a 90% success rate in identifying and containing threats through enhanced SIEM and NetFlow-based monitoring.
- Assurance and Measurement Accuracy: Achieve 90% accuracy in first-line security posture measurements and second-line assurance validations for network devices, as reported through updated Hardening KRI reporting processes.
Core Competencies, knowledge and experience:
- Matric / Grade 12 essential
- 3-year Degree or relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related field
- 5+ years of experience in a cyber security role focused on delivering business outcomes for Enterprise and IP networks
- Strong understanding of cyber risk management and security frameworks, such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise/fixed network technologies, including CPE, IP Core, and associated network management systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, analyse, and resolve complex security issues in large-scale network environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and governance functions
- Strong organisational skills, with the capability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables concurrently
Desire
- Industry certifications such as ISO 27001 Lead Implementer or Auditor/Practitioner, CISM, or CISSP are strongly preferred
- Experience working in a multi-country telecom or large-scale enterprise environment
